Paddle Stiffener
A common issue with the G29 Wheel people complain about is that the paddles feel quite soft without much feedback, so I designed a modification to make them feel much more snappy and reactive.
I am continually learning how to better use Fusion 360 to make my designs. I took measurements from the G29 steering wheel behind the paddles and created a loop with blocks to hold bolts. This was then split in two to slide over and bolt together on the wheel. I also etched in my logo so it 3D prints into my designs.
The two halves of the mod are 3D printed. I will also use two M4 20mm bolts, two hex nuts, and four 6x3mm neodymium magnets.
The magnets are glued into place and minor imperfections from the 3D printing process inside the two halves are sanded away.
I place the top half onto the steerikng wheel column behind the paddles and the magnets hold it in place.
I place the other half below and and after making sure it is centered I screw in the bolt so it holds the two parts together. This is repeated on the other side. Then I fully screw the bolts on sides into the nuts so it is held securely in place and doesn't move.
Fully installed the upgrade stays stable attached to the center wheel column and now gives a small amount of resistance when using each metal paddle. They pull away smoothly and when the paddles are released the magnets draw it back which feels much nicer than how it works out of the box.
